My name is Renee Black.
I am the school counselor in both Wenzel and Congress Schools.  I love what I do and don't consider it just a job.  I find the mind of a child very interesting and enjoy helping to teach them skills to better their lives.
My education was received from a broad range of schooling and experiences.  I attended Goshen College where I received a BS in Elementary Education.  Teaching jobs were hard to find in those days so I spent 2 years as a daycare director.  From there I went more into the area of social work where I worked for protective services for 11 years, 4 of which were on an island in Alaska.  In 1987 I returned to the lower 48 to get my masters degree in counseling from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.    At this point in my life I moved to Jamestown NY where I was a K-5 grade counselor for 3 years.  After a divorce and a need to move closer to my family, I left NY and came to Sturgis where I have been an elementary counselor since 1991.  I am currently married to Gary Black, owner of RGB Network Services.  I have one daughter Jessica who just got married to Jason Klanderud this summer.  She is getting her doctorate degree in History.  Jason and Jessica live in Pittsburgh.  My hobbies include spending time with my family, singing, creative memories, and reading.  I live on a lake and love boating and the out doors.     rblack@sturgisps.org
