The 8th grade A team defended their title as best team in the County winning two games on Saturday for the County Championship.  In the first game Saturday morning, the Trojans  dominated Centreville 24-9 with the outcome never in doubt.  Sturgis smothered the Bulldogs who only scored 1 basket in the 1st half while leading 15-2.  The Trojans were led in scoring by Taylor Bennett with 16 points, including 2 3 pointers.  Haley Kuhnle , Kaysee Shuler, Lauren Lewis and Paige Andrews each scored 2 points.

In the Championship game, Sturgis again used a solid defensive effort and some consistent offense as they defeated Bronson 30-24.  The Trojans held the lead throughout most of the game, but the outcome wasn't safe until the final few minutes of the game.  Harmony Groves, who was playing with the flu and also missed game 1 provided the spark for the Trojans scoring 8 points and playing "shut down" defense on Bronson's best girls.  Taylor Bennett led the team in scoring with another solid performance putting in 14 points.  Lauren Lewis added 4 and Paige Andrews and Chloie LaRoy each scored 2.

With the 14 points, Taylor Bennett moved in to 2nd place on the all-time scoring list with 128 points on the season.

With the win, the 8th grade has now won the County Tournament 3 consecutive years!
